We are delighted to announce that Suzanne Carter, Executive Headteacher of Eastwood Community School and a passionate advocate for learning outside the classroom (LOtC), will be the keynote speaker at the CLOtC National Conference 2025 this November.
Suzanne brings with her over two decades of experience in education, including more than ten years leading Eastwood Community School in Keighley, West Yorkshire. Renowned for her visionary leadership and commitment to inclusive, hands-on learning, Suzanne has shaped Eastwood into a flagship institution for learning outside the classroom, earning the Gold LOtC Mark award for nine consecutive years.
Throughout her career, Suzanne has held key roles beyond her own school, including as a Local Leader of Education and Co-Chair of Bradford Schools in Partnership. Her work has been instrumental in supporting school improvement efforts across West and North Yorkshire, and she continues to drive collaborative, sector-led innovation across the region.
A long-standing member of CLOtC, Suzanne has tirelessly championed learning beyond the classroom, both within Eastwood and across the wider Northern Star Academies Trust. Her leadership has seen a transformative curriculum unfold—rich with music, drama, art, educational visits, and residential experiences—all aimed at unlocking the potential of every learner.

In anticipation of the event, Suzanne shared:
"I am delighted to have been asked to provide a keynote at this year's CLOtC National Conference on behalf of Eastwood Community School and Northern Star Academies Trust. Eastwood has championed the vital importance of learning beyond the classroom for over a decade, as is demonstrated by our CLOtC Gold Status throughout this time. Learning is not isolated to classrooms, and it is our duty to open the eyes of our learners and to widen their opportunities by offering them as rich, fulfilling and diverse a range of opportunities as we possibly can on a daily basis."
"The educational landscape can feel bleak at times but what is guaranteed to overcome any feelings of despair is the unadulterated joy, awe and wonder on the face of a little human when exposed to something new, different and exciting. Equally, it is a privilege to support and enable the adults in our care to push themselves beyond their comfort zones to experience and value these things alongside the children."
"Whilst being delighted to share our journey and commitment to learning beyond the classroom through our curriculum offer, and the great support we have received from the team at CLOtC, I am equally excited to network with colleagues and organisations whom we can learn from and look forward to meeting you all in November!"
Suzanne Carter’s keynote promises to be an inspiring highlight of the CLOtC National Conference 2025, offering invaluable insights into the transformative power of learning outside the classroom and showcasing how their school embodies this year’s conference theme of ‘Creating Connections, Engaging All, Enriching Lives‘. Delegates can look forward to a powerful and personal reflection on the joy, challenge, and impact of taking learning beyond the classroom.
