More students to have magical experiences beyond the classroom – with thanks to Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter

50 schools across the country are being offered free membership of the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom, thanks to funding from Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter, who has recently been assessed and re-awarded the LOtC Quality Badge for their educational programmes, clearly sees the value of bringing students beyond the four walls of their classroom to experience real-life learning that inspires, engages, and is memorable.

Demonstrating their commitment to supporting students to experience these opportunities, Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter is supporting 50 schools* from anywhere in the UK to receive free membership for the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom (CLOtC).

*This offer does not apply to school who currently have CLOtC membership.

CLOtC membership provides whole school access to a wealth of resources and CPD to help staff take more of their teaching and learning outside the classroom (LOtC), so that more children and young people have regular and diverse opportunities to benefit from learning beyond the classroom, whether these experiences happen inside or outside (from galleries and museums to theme parks and field centres), and close to home or far away (from school grounds and local venues to overseas tours and expeditions). Learning beyond the classroom is well evidenced to have positive impact on students’ engagement with learning, academic achievement, and their health and wellbeing. Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter says:

“Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter is proud to champion learning beyond the classroom by offering 50 schools the opportunity to become Council for Learning Outside the Classroom members. Students who visit the Studio Tour have the opportunity to put their classroom learning into a real-world (and magical!) context – whether that’s learning about how maths was used to create half-giant Hagrid, or discovering how important creative writing is to the filmmaking process. We are excited to help even more schools discover the benefits of learning beyond the classroom!”

Dr Anne Hunt, CEO of the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom says:

“We are delighted to be working with Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter to help more schools take their learning beyond the classroom. As well as supporting us to develop new CPD  on supporting students with SEND, we are now able to offer 50 schools a year’s free membership bringing them instant access to this and a wealth of other CPD and case studies.  Our membership offer is particularly popular with schools who are starting to think about taking more of their teaching beyond the classroom but are not sure where to start, or just need the confidence boost that comes from having ideas and case studies from other schools.

The results of embedding learning beyond the classroom across a school (rather than occasional one-offs) is truly impressive. This recent impact report shows positive impact across a wide range of learning outcomes. And both student and teacher wellbeing increased too. In contrast to the recent national wellbeing survey results, our project teacher wellbeing scores rose to above national average, with teachers attributing this change to taking part in learning beyond the classroom.”
