Hosted by The Sustainability Centre, this day course is suitable for individuals wanting to find out more about Forest School and/or considering embarking on Forest School Leader training. It provides an understanding of the ethos behind the Forest School principles as well as a chance for participants to try their hand at a range of skills and activities in an outdoor environment.
An experience day for teachers, early years practitioners and parents to give a taste of the Forest School approach to learning in our beautiful woodland site in the Hampshire South Downs. Have a go at fire lighting, den building, tool use, plus other woodland crafts and activities. Find out how Forest School supports children and adults of all abilities to learn in the outdoors.
Run by Sara Collins, a Forest School Practitioner working with urban children in Portsmouth to reconnect primary school children with the natural world. She is a biologist by training (her PhD is in forest entomology) and discovered Forest School while on a career breaking looking after her baby son. She set up Eco Urban Ranger in 2010 and works with a number of schools in the Portsmouth area. As part of her commitment to high quality outdoor work she is an Accredited Practitioner of the Institute for Outdoor Learning and co-founder and lead of the Nature Premium Campaign – calling for the government to guarantee regular and ongoing nature experiences for all children and young people.
