- build trusting relationships
- increase achievement and skills for life and work
- develop pro-environmental behaviours.
What we do
We support both schools and organisations through our valued services such as the LOtC Quality Badge scheme, LOtC Mark Award and CPD programmes.
The LOtC Quality Badge assesses whether an organisation has policies and procedures that meet current requirements and legislation to give teachers and parents/carers peace of mind. An out-of-date safeguarding policy or electrical testing, poor communication of emergency procedures – all of these could have serious consequences.
We work with names that you’d recognise, such as Buckingham Palace, Science Museum, Go Ape and YHA, as well as a wealth of local museums, faith centres and visiting theatre groups, to name just a few. Big or small, it is imperative that we reach all individuals and organisations that are working with schools.

The importance of the LOtC Quality Badge
The LOtC Quality Badge is the only national award assessing both the quality of risk management and educational provision across all types of learning outside the classroom providers, including in-school theatre groups and sports coaching, museums and castles, botanical gardens and city farms, theme parks and zoos, field study and adventure centres, and expeditions and study cultural tours abroad.
The Department for Education, Senedd Cymru, and teaching unions, including NEU and NASUWT, recommend that schools look for the LOtC Quality Badge when choosing external providers.
The Outdoor Education Advisers’ Panel endorse the LOtC Quality Badge and most Local Authority Outdoor Education Advisers accept it in place of some or all of their checks, so reduces paperwork for all involved.
The scheme provides a framework designed to ensure key policies and procedures are kept up to date and in line with statutory guidance and regulations. It supports providers to develop their education programmes in line with curriculum and learning objectives, and helps them to communicate more effectively with schools and community groups, building trust and long term working relationships..
This vital service helps ensure not only the quality of education on school visits, but crucially the safety of our children and young people.
Sponsor the LOtC Quality Badge and help us to…
- Raise awareness of the scheme and reach more providers who need our support.
- Drive good practice amongst providers through a programme of tailored online training.
- Drive up standards across all LOtC sectors so that all learning outside the classroom is safe and effective.
