Anne Hunt
Chief Executive Officer
Anne took over as CEO in 2020, bringing many years of experience as a senior manager in organisations dedicated to enabling opportunities for people of all ages to benefit from learning beyond the classroom. Through her in-house and consultancy roles, she has supported public, private, and third sector organisations to plan and successfully deliver strategies for growth and development.
Her approach continues to be characterised by building and applying the evidence needed to improve policy, practice and research; and by creating collaborations that support a more integrated and effective approach to service delivery across sectors, including science, natural environment, heritage, education, health, youth, community, and volunteering – and always to deliver better outcomes for people.

Matilda Miles
Communications and Marketing Manager
Matilda joined the team in November 2022, bringing over 10 years of experience delivering strategic marketing and communications across a diverse range of sectors, in both consultancy and in-house roles.
She leads the development and delivery of CLOtC’s marketing and communications strategy, driving engagement with key audiences, including schools, LOtC Quality Badge holders, and members. Matilda is also responsible for the development of the CLOtC brand, working with key stakeholders to champion brand compliance across the organisation while evolving its reach, relevance, and recognition.
Her work spans a range of integrated marketing activity—both digital and offline—designed to raise awareness of the organisation’s work and the life-changing opportunities that learning outside the classroom offers.

Stu Meese
LOtC Quality Badge Manager
Stu joined the team in March 2026 with over 30 years’ experience supporting meaningful, safe and inspiring learning beyond the classroom. Originally from the Midlands, he has spent many years living and working across Europe which continues to shape his approach to education.
Stu’s background spans outdoor centre leadership, youth work, adventurous activities, teaching and expedition leadership in the UK and overseas. He remains deeply committed to learning beyond the classroom as a powerful tool for supporting wellbeing, personal development and connection with place.
As LOtC Quality Badge Manager, Stu is responsible for managing the delivery of the LOtC Quality Badge scheme, including leading its development and growth so that more children and young people can benefit from high quality learning outside the classroom. Stu works closely with outdoor and education visit advisers, LOtC provider organisations, teaching unions, policy makers, industry bodies and other professional networks to promote quality standards across all sectors.

Clare Carlin
Education Programme Manager
Clare joined the team in March 2026 and brings over 20 years’ experience across museums and heritage sites, where she has led and delivered high-quality arts and heritage engagement for children and young people. She began her career as an English teacher in London secondary schools before completing an MA in Museum and Gallery Learning.
Clare went on to lead learning and participation programmes at the Museum of London and Wellcome Collection, developing creative, curriculum-linked experiences that connected young people with culture, place and ideas.
As CLOtC’s Education Programme Manager, Clare supports schools and other settings to embrace and embed learning outside the classroom. She manages the Learning Beyond pathways, including the LOtC Mark. She also delivers online events and CPD, and manages additional projects, working closely with teachers, providers and policy colleagues to ensure learning outside the classroom is at the heart of education.

Emily Carlill
Project and Event Officer
Emily has worked for CLOtC since 2016, following 15 years in the education sector with Stockton Borough Council, Leeds University Union and the University of Leeds in a range of administrative, marketing, communications and events roles.
Emily manages all aspects of the annual CLOtC National Conference, which includes securing sponsors, exhibitors and advertisers, developing the workshop programme, producing promotional and event materials, and organising volunteers and logistics to ensure successful delivery on the day.
In addition to the conference, Emily coordinates the annual programme of online CPD events, recruiting speakers and communicating with attendees.
Emily also supports Clare with the Learning Beyond programmes and projects, administering LOtC Mark and project applications, communicating with schools, educational settings and assessors, and producing marketing materials, documents and resources. She also supports the wider team with membership, marketing and communications, and website management.

James Cooke
Business Support Coordinator
James joined the team in 2012. In his youth, he was fortunate to attend a school that strongly believed in the benefits of learning beyond the classroom. Lessons took place in the school grounds and local park, with regular visits to galleries and museums both near and far. These are experiences he will never forget and which continue to shape his life today, reflected in his enjoyment of travel, heritage, the arts, and live music.
James coordinates all the charity’s administration, including supporting providers and schools through the LOtC Quality Badge and LOtC Mark schemes, as well as helping support our customer service, finance, membership, IT, and data management.
