Plan and deliver learning outside the classroom

Get ready – parents

Parental consent is not necessary for Category 1 and 2 activities.   This is providing that an expectation that these activities are a normal part of the curriculum has been included in the school prospectus and the activity takes place within the normal school day. There may, of course, be specific reasons for informing parents where learners need to come better prepared, e.g. when alternative clothing is advisable.

The LOtC team should seek parental consent for Category 3 activities.  These would cover activities such as:

  • non-routine off-site activities that may fall outside the school day (no matter how short the activity)
  • adventurous activities
  • farm visits
  • visits abroad
  • other residential visits
  • remote supervision
  • more complex activities (e.g. climbing walls in the school grounds).

Be aware that there are specific requirements for early year and foundation stage children.
