Module 2 – From Curriculum to Compelling Learning

Learning outside the classroom for school curriculum leaders

This module is written particularly for those who have responsibility for curriculum planning and design, and those whose primary concern is for teaching and learning in schools. This module will be most effective where it is delivered for people within the same school, youth club or early years setting and within the same phase of education. It comprises trainer notes, PowerPoint presentations, facilitation scripts for each session, resources and materials as well as a delegate resource booklet.

The following Making the Case presentation shows how worldwide research has demonstrated that learning outside the classroom has a positive impact on the development of young people. Improvements are seen in young people’s learning, physical experiences, social interaction, emotional well-being and response, whether through a behaviour change or a shift in values and attitudes.

Butterfly on the wrist of a child

Our Eco Committee meets every half term and helps to make decisions about the design, use and management of the grounds and making the school more sustainable. The children are 4 - 7 years olds, but they understand more than most adults about their impact on the Earth.
