About this site and how to make the most of it

This website promotes the benefits of learning outside the classroom, its position as a key component in the organisation of learning and the contribution it can make to raising achievement. It achieves this by collating information, knowledge, expertise, guidance and resources. This means you can contribute your own content to the site.

Guidance for practitioners

The Out and About Guidance section of the website consists of web-based advice and practical guidance which has been developed to provide schools with the tools to plan, implement and evaluate high quality learning outside the classroom experiences. 

How you can make a difference

Above all it’s your website. To make optimum use of individual and collective resources, we can all work together by pooling our knowledge and resources. To this end, this website is also a powerful interactive communication tool. It enables everyone involved in learning outside the classroom activities to promote and share examples of good practice. Your contributions are vital to keep the website up to date and to ensure it becomes an invaluable resource for anyone planning a learning outside the classroom experience. We welcome contributions of:
News – submit sector-specific news articles
Events – let us know about conferences, workshops or activity weeks that may be of interest to other visitors to the site
Case studies – share your examples of good practice (these can be in text or video format)
Research items – add to our library of research and reports on the benefits of learning outside the classroom
Pledges and signatories – actively support the manifesto by submitting your own pledge and/or signature.

How to find the information you need

We have added some powerful facilities to help you find what you’re looking for quickly and easily.
Search is a site-wide facility that looks for specific terms on the web pages themselves and presents search results with the most relevant pages at the top.

Content filtering allows you to filter news, events and case studies by sector and subject. You can also filter case studies by key stage.

Help with training

The site also offers a valuable suite of six CPD modules, to support the whole school workforce in delivery of Learning Outside the Classroom experiences.
